The Amazing Snowman Buy · $499

What a snow machine costs to run

The Amazing Snowman costs $499, and running him costs about $8 of fluid per 45-minute tank, or a little over $10 an hour of steady snow by our math.

Fluid is the real running cost. GSE lists his power as a standard 120 V outlet at 10 A, which is a maximum rating, not a measured hourly use.

Six-pack of 2 oz Amazing Snowman Evaporative Snow fluid bottles

What you pay for

  • The machine once: $499, or $799 for the Snowman and Snow Woman with two 6-packs of fluid.
  • Fluid: $47 for six 2 oz bottles, or $94 for three 6-packs.
  • Water from the tap to mix with each bottle.
  • Electricity from a standard outlet.

What you don't pay for

  • Assembly or setup. He ships ready to go.
  • Cleanup. The flakes evaporate in under two minutes on average, GSE says.
  • Cold weather. He doesn't need it, so no venue in the north just for snow.
  • A DMX controller or timer. He has a switch and a knob. Pro machines with DMX cost more: GSE's T-1400 is $2,495.

Our math: one 2 oz bottle per half-gallon tank and about 45 minutes per tank, both from GSE. Bottle counts are rounded up to whole tanks. Prices are from Global Special Effects' store, checked November 6, 2026.

Power. GSE lists 120 V and 10 A. That's 1,200 watts at most, so no more than 1.2 kWh in an hour of running. Real use is likely lower, but GSE doesn't publish a measured figure, so we won't guess one.

Spending less on fluid.

  1. 1

    Buy the 3-pack

Three 6-packs for $94 is buy 2, get 1 free, which takes a tank from about $7.83 to about $5.22.

  2. 2

    Run him in stretches

Snow when people are there to see it. His switch works with a wireless remote outlet plug, so you can start him when guests arrive.

  3. 3

    Keep it a light flurry

GSE says a light flurry evaporates properly. Heavy snow uses the tank on flakes that settle and can get slippery.
