Indoor snow machine
An indoor snow machine works if you plan for the floor, and the $499 Amazing Snowman is suitable for indoor use, with dry flakes that evaporate in under two minutes on average.
Two honest caveats: GSE's manual recommends him for outdoors first, and it warns that snow can leave a slippery residue on smooth floors, linoleum in particular.
- IndoorsGSE lists him for indoor and outdoor use
- < 2 minand the flakes are gone, on average
- 15 to 20+ ftso give him a long room
- Floorssmooth ones can get slippery
Who he fits
- Living rooms and party rooms with carpet or a large rug where the flakes land.
- Large rooms and lobbies where he can point down the long side.
- Fellowship halls and school rooms, with the snow aimed away from the path people walk.
- Anyone who wants a machine people can see. He's the decoration and the snow in one.
Who he doesn't fit
- Rooms where a slick floor is a real risk, like gym floors, dance floors or linoleum hallways.
- Small rooms. His flakes travel 15 to 20+ feet, so they'll reach the furniture and walls.
- Anywhere that can't take any moisture. The fluid is mixed with water, so test first around electronics, artwork or anything delicate.
- People with breathing, skin or eye conditions who'd be close by for a long time. GSE's data sheet says exposure may aggravate them.
- Rooms with little fresh air. GSE's data sheet calls for adequate ventilation.

This is Global Special Effects' own video of the Snowman running. It wasn't shot at an event like yours, but it lets you judge the snow for yourself before you buy.
Running him indoors.
- 1
Plan where the snow lands
Point him down the long side of the room, so the flakes land on carpet or a mat instead of bare linoleum or tile. Keep walkways clear.
- 2
Keep the outlet safe
The manual calls for a grounded outlet with GFCI. His cord is 70 inches, and he should sit on a dry, level surface.
- 3
Start low
Set the knob to a light flurry. GSE says that evaporates properly, while heavier snow can build up and get slippery.
- 4
Check with the building
GSE's documents don't cover smoke alarms or sprinklers. If it isn't your own home, ask the building manager first. Then do a short test run.

Good questions.
Can you use a snow machine indoors?
The Amazing Snowman, yes. GSE says he's suitable for indoor and outdoor use, though the manual recommends outdoors. Keep the flakes light and watch smooth floors.
Will it make my floor slippery?
It can. GSE's manual warns about slippery residue on some surfaces, linoleum in particular, especially with heavier snow. Use a light flurry and warn people walking through.
How long does fake snow from a snow machine last?
GSE says the flakes dissipate in under two minutes on average. Its spec sheet gives 30 to 120 seconds.
Does it leave a mess?
GSE says there's no mess or cleanup, but also warns about slippery residue on some floors. Check a small area after a test run on a floor you care about.
Does it set off smoke alarms?
GSE's documents don't say. Ask your building manager, and test it before an event.
Is the fluid safe indoors?
GSE says it's safe for indoor use and describes it as non-toxic. Its data sheet for the undiluted concentrate lists skin and eye irritation. See snow fluid safety.
